Right now, I’m faffing and stressing about getting the first book translated into Italian. Just when I thought Raw Mistakes was done and dusted, never to be looked at by myself again, there are even more emotional issues at play.
Most of the people I used as inspiration in my book don’t speak English, so they have yet to learn what I’ve written about them. Robby, Luca, Rico, Micky, and Sully—they’re all based on real people. And although they, or most of them, know I wrote a book series, they need to learn what it’s about. So many people I know have asked to read it in Italian that it’s something I have to do.
I worry about the backlash once word gets around that the story is out. I’ve obviously changed names, descriptions, etc., but I only had one ex-husband, and he’ll know it’s him. Robby will definitely recognise himself, although thankfully, he doesn’t read, ever. Rico is so self-absorbed that he’s never given me a second thought. He’s probably even forgotten that I’m on the same planet as him.
Publishing the book in English was already scary enough but for different reasons. Now, with it being translated, I am getting myself into a bit of a nervous state about it all, but hey, I’ll just go with the flow.
Happy reading everyone.
Gwen, or, as my friends call me, Gwingle.
