In book three, I have a character who is known by one name; let’s call her Emma.
Something happens to her, and in book four, she needs to escape
and hide from everyone. She changes her name, her look, her identity and even
her passport.
Let’s say her new name is Julie, for example, and that is the name everyone uses when talking to her.

Would you like her to be referred to as Emma or Julie?
“Hello,” Emma said, or “Hello,” Julie said.
